Zomato Master Class at Le Cirque, Delhi

I have been watching Master Chef for as long as I can remember. The food stories, the getting inspired and the oh-my-lord-why-didn’t-I-think-of-it has kept me returning to it, season-after-season.
There’s a thing I firmly believe about food which is it is the ‘be-all’ and ‘end-all’ of everything. Think about it-food gets you going, makes you look forward to that ‘part’ of the day and helps you connect with new people. Also if there’s something you really, really want to eat the shortest way is to cook it! Unless you are super-duper rich and can afford the finest chefs of the world to come and cook a meal for you in your home. Ah, that would be life. But I like it the other way, there is nothing more comforting that cooking.

And to re-establish the same spirit, I was pumped for the Zomato MasterClass that happened a few weeks back at Le Cirque, New Delhi. By the way, this hotel is on the most beautiful property I have even seen. Every spot is worth taking a picture.

Anyway back to the class, Anita Lo, Ana Ros and Lauren Eldridge were our teachers for the day. The class started with Anita teaching us how to make dumplings. And she went through the whole bit of stuffing, pinching, frying/steaming these gorgeous, soft beauties like a breeze. Her idea of cooking the way she does was simple- cook from the heart. Keep all your senses open, so that you identify what a recipe needs rather than following one. Amazing, isn’t it?

Head, heart and hands together result in a great meal, was what Ana said as demonstrated her dish. It was a scallops with pickled radishes, and beuree noisette vegetables, all centered around an egg yolk- which gets cooked when hot dashi is poured, so bloody genius!

Last up was Lauren with her decadent Chocolate Tart. Simple ingredients and smart technique is what her tip was. Being a keen baker, I had to go up to her and get the recipe. Which she very kindly passed on- can’t wait to try it in my kitchen.

The folks at Le Cirque know their food. Our lunch was delicious. The Vanilla Crème Brulee was the most-loved on our table. We each had three portions of it!
